Know all men by these presence, that we James Ashby and Matilda Ashby of Accomack County in the State of Virginia, considering freedom from a State of Slavery, the natural and propper [proper] right of the black people as well as the white people, Have thought fit to manumit and Sit free the following Slaves, And do by these presence manumit Sit free and quit Claim forever to those hereafter mentioned, To wit, Peter, Parris, and Pleasant, In testimony whereof we have here unto Sit our hands and affixed our Seals, This the thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and ninety Six.
