Camp Ewel[l] near Garretts Crossing Va February 26 1865 Dear wife and family I have just goten [sic] in from working on the brest [sic] works and as I have the time will address you with lines I can Say to you that this leaves me as well as Common I hope you may receive this letter in due time and it may fine [find] you all in good health and [illegible] George came up to see me [illegible] and staid all night [illegible] the [illegible] is not good [illegible] he staid with me the Same night he was [illegible] he Said he could be over again in a few days but [illegible] Since he left our Camp [illegible] I expected to [illegible] but he left Sooner than I expected. George give me a bond that he got [illegible] in positions I give it to Dr Smith [illegible] you to get James [rest of page illegible]
