To the Worshipful Court of Accomack The Petition of Mary a negroe woman, held in slavery respectfully sheweth unto your worships, That your Petitioner was formerly the slave of Edward Bailey of this County The said Edward Bailey as your Orator has been informed on the 25th day of April 1806 by Deed duly executed and of record in this Court emancipated your Petitioner to take effect when your Petitioner attained the age of 35 years. Your Petitioner is advised that she is now more than 35 years of age--and she is still retained in slavery by Mrs Nancy Bailey widow of said Edward Bailey. Your Petitioner therefore prays your worships to permit her to sue in forma pauperis for the recovery of her freedom according to Law. Mary (X her mark)
