(Recognizance of witness in felony.) CITY OF RICHMOND, TO-WIT: BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the 27 day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-4 Robert Richardson Stephen N. Davis and Lewis M. Carter personally came before me Joseph Mayo Mayor of the said City, in said City and severally acknowledged themselves to owe to the Commonwealth of Virginia; each in the sum of Three hundred dollars separately, of good and lawful money of the Confederate States of America, to be made and levied of their goods and chattels, lands and tenements respectively, to the use of the said Commonwealth.
The Condition of this Recognizance is such, that if the above bound Robert Richardson Stephen N. Davis and Lewis M Carter and each of them, shall personally appear before the Justices of the City of Richmond aforesaid, on the 8th day of February, eighteen hundred and sixty-4, at a Court by them to be holden, in and for said City, in the City Hall of said City, in said City, for the trial of Washington and Robert (Slaves) charged with felony and do then and there, in behalf of said Commonwealth, give such evidence as each of them knoweth, concerning the said offence, with which the said Washington and Robert stands charged, and do not depart without leave of said Court, then this recognizance to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. Taken and acknowledged before me, in said City, and within the jurisdiction aforesaid, the day and year first above written. Joseph Mayo Mayor.
