KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That we Catharine H. Myers and Gustavus A. Myers are held and firmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the sum of Nine thousand dollars, to the payment whereof, well and truly to be made to the said Commonwealth of Virginia, we bind ourselves and each of us, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 14th day of January, one thousand eight hundred and Sixty five.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That whereas John, a slave the property of Catharine Myers, was tried and convicted in the Court of Hustings for the City of Richmond on the 12th day of January 1865, under Section 29 of Chapter 192 of the Code of Virginia for 1860, of conniving at the escape of other slaves with intent to leave this State: Now if the said Catharine Myers shall, within thirty days from the date hereof, sell the said Slave John beyond the limits of the State of Virginia then the obligation is to be void, or else to remain in full force.
