To the Honourable The Speaker and House of Delegates of the Commonwealth of Virginia
The Memorial of the undersigned Citizens of the Town of Fredericksburg, respectfully represent that a Petition will be presented to your Honourable body during the present Session of the Legislature by William Jones a Free man of Colour, and a citizen of the said Town, Praying a Pension upon grounds set forth in the said Petition, and the Documents accompanying it. In support of the Pretensions of the said Petitioner to the aid of his country Your Memorialist's beg leave to state to your Honourable Body that the said William Jones is a most meritorious Citizen. That to many of your Memorialists he has been personally known for upwards of ' Thirty years during the whole of which he has been distinguished for his sober industrious habits and strict integrity of Character. During the long period which has intervened since the Close of the Revolutionary War, in which he zealously engaged, He has supported himself by his honest Industry and but for the visible decline of his bodily Powers from his advanced age Could continue to do so. Having now reached his seventy fifth year his bodily faculties are rapidly sinking under the infirmaties of age and his Labour must soon Cease to afford him a support. In consideration of the circumstances your Memorialist's offer their earnest solicitations to your Honourable Body in favour of some aid being extended without delay to the Petitioner in the payment of an annual Pension and they will as in duty bound ever Pray
