To the honourable members of the general assembly of Virginia.

Your petitioner Samuel Johnston a free man of colour humbly showeth, that as the last session of your honourable body an appreciation of your petitioner praying for the emancipation of his daughter was ineffectual (as your petitioner is informed) from a neglect on his part to eschibit [exhibit] before your honours sufficient evidence of his strong and peculiar claims to your favor and liberality

Your petitioner having now furnished himself additional evidence to support his aforesaid petition, which is herewith eschibeted [exhibited] humbly prayeth that your honours will reconsider her aforesaid application, and, that an act of your honourable body may be passed in conformity with the prayer thereof and your petitioner will win prays &c
