[perpendicular as label on folded document] John Shumate's Affidavit Fy-20

I have been intimately acquainted with the family of the late Turner Dixon for twenty five years & have resided adjoining his estate for the last 20 years. I am of opinion that a division of the said Turnner's widow's dower estate amongst her children would be greatly to the interests to all parties.I will recollect about 20 years ago that the said widow Maria Dixon was sicked with lunacy & from the facts now in my possession I am qualified to say she had the same malady without any hope of recovery. [signed] James Smith

Fauquier County S Ct James Smith personally appeared before the subscribe a justice of the peace for the County aforesaid and made oath to the above certificate as containing facts to the best of this knowledge given under my hand Nov. 26th 1832. [signed] D Fauntleroy Fy-21
