To the Senate and House of Representatives of Virginia Your Petitioner Samuel Johnson humbly and respectfully represents that he is a free man of Colour residing in Farquier County Va - that he is getting old and feeble and looks forward in a short time to becoming helpless and dependant - That he has an only daughter affectionate and industrious upon whose exertion he may be forced in a short time to Rely for daily sustenance. He would further state that this daughter some years since married Spencer Malvin at that time apparently of unimpeachable character - a thriving intelligent mechanic: but who since has deserted her and his little children - This too under circumstances that go far to shew utter depravity of heart and morals. This desertion was caused by the probable detection of Malvins Misconduct in circulating Anti Slavery papers, and in his disclosing a disposition to array the Blacks against the Whites with a view to the Supremacy of the former. Your petitioner would call the attention of Your Hon bodies to the certificate of Mr Faut concerning the seduction of his negro man from his service by the said Malvin. Your humble Petitioner has after a life of incessant toil succeeded in procuring for himself a small cottage and Garden where he had hoped to close his eyes in peace attended by his child - his only child - his attachments to the Town. The County and their people is strong and unalienable - He could not at his advanced age and with his feelings to another soil and another people and yet without his daughter and alone how could he live here in Your Petitioner humbly deprecates the kindness and sympathies of the Legislature for Gk-1
