-lieving her deserted by her husband, honestly believing him to be at this time living in shameful disregard of the solemn duties of a father & husband, honestly believing that he has violated the laws of this Commonwealth by seducing a slave from the possession of his master and thereby has become amenable to the penalties of felony, your petitioner humbly prays to be divorced from the said Spencer, that all connection may be legally broken between them. Your petitioner has given said Spencer notice of this application, by the only means in her power, to wit - by public notice in the Newspaper printed in the town of Warrenton, which together with the evidence of the regular solemnization of her marriage, according to law & the solemnities of the church are respectfully submitted Lucy Malvin. We the undersigned citizens of Fauquier County certify that the Petitioner Lucy Malvin is a person of excellent moral character. The facts states in her petition we have good reason to believe are true, and we think it highly proper to encourage the regard to law & religious observances in persons of her class, which she has indicated.
