Know all men by these presents that I John Armistead of the County of Matthews and State of Virginia [illegible] instituted and appointed Wm Crittenden of the county of Matthews my lawful attorney for me and in my name to receive the money due me from the State of Virginia for the value of three slaves Adam, Henry and Meredith condemned to death by court of Matthews County and reprieved by the executive of the state - and hereby certify the acts of sd Crittenden and empower him to execute all and every sufficient receipt, release or releases & as witness my hand and seal this 18th April 1829 [c?] John Armistead Teste W A Roy Th R Yeatman
