Brunswick County to wit

John C Robinson complains of Samuel Bracey in custody &c of a plea that he render unto him a Negro Man called Cyrus which from him, he the said defendt. unjustly detains - for that whereas the said John C Robinson on the first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two was possessed of the said negro Cyrus at the Parish of St. Andrews and County aforesaid, as of his own proper Slave and being so there of possessed, the said John C Robinson at the Parish aforesaid in the county aforesaid the same day and year aforesaid, casually lost the said negro, and the said negro man Cyrus afterwards to wit on the sd first day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two at the Parish and county aforesaid, to the hands and possession of the defendant by finding same, and the said defendant was and still is thereof possessed of him; yet the said defendant although he well knew the said negro man Cyrus to be the property of the plaintiff, and although often required by the said plaintiff at the Parish and County aforesaid, the negro man Cyrus aforesaid to him has not delivered but the aforesaid negro to the said plaintiff to deliver, has altogether refused and still does refuse and unjustly detain to the damage of the said plaintiff three hundred Dollars and therefore he brings Suit &c.
