State of Virginia Norfolk county to wit: At a court held for Norfolk county the 17th day of Octo. 1854 John Murphy an alien who has lately arrived in the United States and is desirous of being nationalized a citizen thereof this day appeared in court and in pursuance of the act of Congress made a report of himself, which report is in the following words to wit : I John Murphy make the following report of myself to the worshipful court of Norfolk county. I was born in the Kingdom of Great Britain in Ireland in the county of Kilkenny in the Town of Jarpoint Abbey, in the parish of Thomas Town in the year 1817. Am a subject of Victoria first, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and landed in the city of Norfolk in the state of Virginia in the month of March 1837 and intend to settle in the state of Virginia county of Norfolk. He makes this report for the purpose of becoming a citizen of the United States. Given under my hand this 17th day of October 1854. John Murphy and the said John Murphy declared on oath that it is bona fide his intention to become a citizen of the United States and to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereign by whatever and particularly to Victoria the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
