This Indenture made and entered into this the 10th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight between Edward Walton & Dan'l B Meador overseers of the poor of the county of Cumberland of the one part and Joseph Jenkins of the said county of the other part witnesseth that the said Edward Walton & Dan'l B Meador overseers of the poor as aforesaid by virtue of an order of the county court of Cumberland made and entered at their February term 1838 hath put placed and bound and by these presents doth put place and bind Martha a free girl of colour of the age of twelve years and ten months a daughter of a free woman of colour by the name of Milly Jenkins to be an apprentice with him the said Joseph Jenkins and as an apprentice with him the said Joseph Jenkins to dwell from the date of these presents untill the said Martha shall come to the age of eighteen years, according to the act of the General Assembly in that case made and provided. By and during all which time and term that is from the date of these presents til the said Martha shall arrive to the age of eighteen years she the said Martha shall the said Joseph Jenkins her said master well and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said Martha shall be put unto by her said master according to the power wit and ability of her the said Martha and she the said Martha shall honestly and obediently in all things behave herself towards her said master and honestly and orderly towards the rest of the family of the said Joseph Jenkins and the said Joseph Jenkins on his part for himself his executors and administrators doth hereby promise and covenant to and with the said Edward Walton & Dan'l B Meador overseers of the poor as aforesaid his executors and administrators and his successors for the time being and to and with the said Martha that he the said Joseph Jenkins shall the said Martha in the business craft mystery and occupation of a farmer which the said Joseph now useth after the best manner that he can or may teach instruct and inform or cause to be taught instructed and informed as much as thereunto belongeth or in any wise appertaineth and that the said Joseph Jenkins shall also find and allow unto the said
