Know all men by these presents that I, Philip R. Fendall, of the town of Alexandria in the District of Columbia, in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars lawful money of the United States to me in hand paid by Alfred Lee, of the town aforesaid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, and hereby do grant, bargain and sell to the said Alfred Lee, a certain negro slave named Henry Tate, to hold the said slave to the said Alfred Lee, his executors, administrators and assigns forever. And I, the said Philip R. Fendall, for myself, my executors and administrators, hereby covenant with the said Alfred Lee, his executors, administrators and assigns, the said negro slave to warrant and forever defend to him, and them, against the claims and demands of every person whatsoever. In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand and seal this fifteenth day of November in the year eighteen hundred and twenty five. P. R.
