THIS INTERPARTY of Affreighment indebted Concluded & made the Twenty First day of July in the First year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland King Defender of the Faith etc Annog Dns [Anno Dom] 1715 Between The Honble. Alexander Spotswood His Matys. Lieutenant Governor of Virginia for and in behalf of the Governour & Council of South Carolina of the one part And William Dandridge of the County of Elizabeth City Gent Owner of the Sloop William of Virginia of the other part WITNESSETH That the said William Dandrige hath granted & to Freight Lott the said Sloop unto the said Alexander Spotswood for the Account of the Government of South Carolina for a Voyage with her to be made in Manner following THAT is to say the said William Dandridge for himself & Executors & administrators doth Covenant & promise to & with the said Alexander Spotswood that the said Sloop shall immediately after the ensealing by Delivery hereof be well & sufficiently fitted with all Tackle Furniture & apparel for the voyage hereafter mentioned and that also at the proper Cost & Charge of the said William Dandridge be furnished with platforms for the Convenient Lodging of Thirty Men And shall also be in a readiness and shall also be in a readiness to take on board the said number of Thirty Men And with them to Sail from the Port of Hampton in Virginia with the First fair wind & without delay proceed to the Port of Charlestown in South Carolina and to Land & put on Shore the said Men (the Danger of the Seas excepted) within such time as the Governour of South Carolina shall appoint Not exceeding Forty Eight hours And the said William Dandridge doth further Covenant & agree to cause to be put on board the said Sloop such a Quantity of Fresh Water in good tight Casks as shall be sufficient for the said Number of Thirty Men During the said voyage, And also that the said Sloop shall be provided with a Skilful Master & a sufficient Number of able Mariners for Navigating the said Vessel for the said Voyage IN consideration of all which the said Alexander Spotswood for & in behalf of the Governour & Council of South Carolina doth Covenant & promise to & with of the said Men in Charlestown well & truly [illegible-torn] & pay unto the said William Dandridge or his [illegible-torn] the Sum of Twenty shillings Currt. [Current] mony of Virginia for each man so put on Board & Delivered at Charles Town aforesaid or so much of the Commodities of that Province as being delivered in Virginia will raise the said sums of Mony over & above the Freight & Charges And the said William Dandridge doth further Covenant & agree that in Case the Governour & Council of South Carolina shall within the Space of Ten days as aforesaid have occasion to Ship for Virginia any Slaves according to their Treaty with that Governour The said Sloop shall take on board so many of the said slaves as she can reasonably carry & the Governour of Carolina shall think fit to send And the same shall transport to Virginia at the rate of Ten shillings P [per] head the said Government of South Carolina furnishing provisions for the said Slaves. And the said Alexander Spotswood for & behalf of the said Governour & Council of South Carolina doth promise & Engage that as the Sloop Morant of South Carolina being Imployed for the service of that Government was exempted from the payment of all dues & Fees for Entring [Entering] & Clearing in Virginia The said Sloop William shall in Like Manner be exempted from all Dues & Fees in South Carolina for this present Voyage.
