Virginia stood for centralization and maximum efficiency. It was the dearest wish of his declining years that the University should stand as the apex of the educational system he had devised. To make graduation at the University of Virginia possible to every high school pupil able to profit by what the University has to offer would be fulfilling after a hundred years the dream of its founder. Remember that in 1916 there were 1,062 high school graduates shut off from participation in its advantages! Remember that these girls are not asking to be admitted to the male departments of the University, but to be given the right to enter a college for women maintained as a separate department of the University!
