George A. SHELOR, 33652969, Private First Class, Infantry, 87th Mountain Infantry, United States Army. For meritorious service in combat on 4 March 1945, near Monte Della Vedetta, Italy. When a platoon lost contact with it main element during an attack, Private First Class SHELOR, company runner, was sent in search for the missing unit. Although enemy shells were continually exploding in the area and the danger of enemy snipers was imminent, he, alone and unafraid, went in search of the lost platoon. Enroute he selected paths in defilade, and upon finding the lost men he guided them back to the company with safety. Later his unit, reorganized with the additional men, continued on with its attack. His courageous completion of a hazardous mission is ideally typical of the the finest United States Army traditions. Entered the military service from Meadows of Dan, Virginia.
