This deed made this 1st day of June 1868 between David Malbone one of the Overseers of the Poor of Ps. [Princess] Anne County of the one part and Peter Dyer of the other part: Witnesseth that the said David Malbone overseer of the poor as aforesaid by virtue of an order of the Court of Princess Anne County bearing date the 3d day of March 1868 has put placed and bound and by these presents does put place and bind Walter Williams (colored) aged about Eight years as an apprentice with him the said Peter Dyer to dwell from the date of these presents until the said Walter Williams shall come to the age of twenty one years, according to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided. By and during all which time and term the said Walter Williams (col'd) [colored] shall the said Peter Dyer his said master well and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said Walter Williams (Col'd) shall be put unto by his said master according to the power wit and ability of him the said Walter Williams (col'd) and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave himself towards his said Master. And the said Peter Dyer for his part for himself his executors and administrators doth hereby promise and covenant to and with the said overseer of the poor his Executors administrators and successors for the time being and to and with the said Walter Williams (col'd) that he the said Peter Dyer shall the said Walter Williams (col'd) in the art of and occupation of farming &c, after the best manner that he can cause to be taught instructed and informed as much thereunto belongeth or in any way appertaineth. And that the said Peter Dyer shall also find and allow unto the said apprentice sufficient meat drink apparel washing Lodging and all other things needful or meet for an apprentice during the term aforesaid, and will moreover pay to the said Walter Williams (col'd) the sum of Fifty dollars when he arrives at the age of twenty one years.
