This indenture made the 13th day of October in the year 1855 between Magdalene Miller of the County of Rockbridge (a coloured free woman) the mother of of an infant under the age of fourteen years of the one part & W B Willson of the said County of the other part (Witnesseth) that the said Magdalene Miller by & with the allowance and Consent of the County Court of Rockbridge County by an order of the said Court made on the 6th day of August 1855 in pursuance of the statute in that case made and provided has put and placed and by these presents does put and place an infant Child named Margaret Louisa aged 5 years the daughter of the aforesaid Magdalene Miller apprentice to the said W B Willson with him to dwell and serve from the day of the date of these presents until the said apprentice shall accomplish her full age 18 years & the said Magdalene Miller for herself her Heirs &c does hereby Covenant promise & agree to and with the said W. B. Willson his Executors & administrators that she the said Margaret Louisa the said W. B. Willson her Master hall & will faithfully serve in all lawful business according to her power wit & ability and honestly orderly & obediently in all things demean & behave herself towards her said Master during the said term of apprenticeship & the said W. B. Willson for himself his Heirs Executors &c doth Covenant promise & agree to & with the said Magdalene Miller her Administrators &c by these presents that the said E.B. Willson shall & will teach & instruct the said Margaret Louisa or cause her to be taught in the art of house keeping in the best way & manner that he can during the said term & shall & will during the all time of the aforesaid apprenticeship provide & allow unto the said Margaret Louisa competent & sufficient meat drink lodging & washing all things necessary & fit for an apprentice except an education In Witness whereof the parties above mentioned have to these presents set their hands and seals on the day & year first above written.
