Camp Ewell, near Garrotts [Garretts] Crossing February 12 [1865] my wife and family I will [illegible] you a short letter this morning, that you may here [sic] from me I have been very sick, but I thank God I am up again, but not well I hope you will receive this in due time and will fine [sic] you all in good health and doing well I have no news of importance to inform you of, we have very hard times we have to work on brestworks [sic] every day the yankees are trying to flank around to the South Side [torn-illegible] general Prigrin [Pegram] was kill[ed] [torn-illegible] I understand that upwards of [torn-illegible] of his men have left since the fight I heard yesterd[ay] that 204 of Ivines [sic] men left thursday night the Soldiers are determined to break up this ware [war] I think that Terry will loose [sic] a good many in a short time you
