Myers a notary public for said city duly commissioned and qualified, to be read in evidence in a certain Suit now depending in the Circuit Superior Court of law and chancery for the County of Campbell in which Louisa Alexander and Eliza Alexander the lust an infant under the age of twenty one years by the said Louisa her mother and next friend are plaintiffs and John Preston White is defendant.

James M. Selden a witness of lawful age introduced on behalf of the said defendant being first duly sworn deposes and answers to the interrogations propounded to him as follows -

1 Question by the Defendant - were you acquainted with Louisa the colored woman who was in the possession of William Alexander Senior-

Answer - Yes

2nd Question by same- Did you regard her as the property of William Alexander Senior or Alexander, Junior -

Answer- I understood from Wm Alexander, Senior that he had purchased Louisa from her master Mr Wills of Nottoway County Virga the said Louisa who was his wife- and who resided with him a part of the time while he was in my service in Virginia and afterwards in Maryland-

3rd Question by same - By whom she carried to Maryland-

Answer. She was carried there by William Alexander, Sr, her husband-

Did you ever own or buy any claim to the said Louisa or her children-
