Virginia At a court held for Cumberland County the 26th day of April 1852 Philip Strause, a native of Germany, this day applied to the court to be admitted a Citizen of the United States whereupon it appearing to the court that he arrived in the United States more than five years previous to the date hereof; and the said Philip Strause, also exhibited a certificate of the County Court of Cumberland that more than two years ago he had declared on oath in the said Court his intention to become a Citizen of the United States: and it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court, that he has resided in the United States five years, and within this state one year at least, and during that time has behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the principles of the Constitution of the United States and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty, whatever, and particularly to the King of Bavaria in Germany and thereupon, the said Philip Strause is admitted a citizen of the said United States.
