To the honourable speaker, and Members of the House of Delegates of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Petition of William Lamb and Mary his wife, humbly sheweth, that William Ryan late of the City of Richmond and County of Henrico, in the said Commonwealth, and your Petitioner Mary drew their first breaths in the Kingdom of Ireland, then subject to the King of Great Britain and Ireland, now subject to the same King, as Governing the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Ireland: That they intermarried in that, their native Country; but migrated to the United State of North America in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight, where they continued to reside, as Husband and wife; until the decease of the said William Ryan. That from their first entry into the United States, the said William Ryan and your Petitioner Mary wished to become Citizens; but, from Ignorance of the Laws of the said United States, did not know how to proceed, till, at last, the mode was pointed out to them, and they were also advised that the Naturalization of the said William would Naturalize your Petitioner Mary then his wife also, under this impression, he cautiously observed all the previous steps required by Law, in order to his own naturalization or, (which is the same thing) admission as a Citizen and was admitted, as such, by the then District Court appointed by law, to be held at the Capitol in the said City of Richmond.
