This Indenture made this twenty seventh day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three between Dr. William H. Chappell of the first part and David C Jones & James P Vaughan overseers of the poor for district  district No 3 in the county of Amelia of the other part, witnesseth, that the said Dr. William H. Chappell covenants and agrees to and with David C Jones and James P Vaughan overseers of the poor as aforesaid, by virtue of an order of the court of the aforesaid county , bearing date the February Court day in the year 1831 have put and placed and bound and by these presents do put place and bind John a Mulattoe son Judith Perkinson eight years and seven months old; to be an apprentice with him the said Dr. William H Chappell to dwell from the date of these presents, until the said John Mulattoe as above shall come to the age of twenty one years according to the act of assembly in that case made and provided. By and during all which time and term, the said John as above shall the said Dr. William H. Chappell his said master, well and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said John as above shall be put unto by his said master according to the power and ability of him the said John as above and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave himself towards his said master and all others of the family. And the said Dr. William H Chappell for his part, for himself, his executors and administrators doth promise and covenant to and with the said overseers of the poor and every of them their and every of of their extrs and admrs, and their and every of their successors for the time being, and to and with the said overseer above that he the said Dr. William H Chappell shall the said John as above in the various duties of a servant instruct after the best manner. And the said Dr. William H Chappell shall also find and allow unto the said apprentice sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, lodging, and all other things needful or meet for an apprentice during the aforesaid term.  In witness
