This Indenture made this 24th day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty four between Thomas W. Webster and Thomas Goode overseers of the poor of district No. 1 in the County of Amelia of the one part and John F. Bass of the said county of the other part Witnesseth, That the said Thomas W. Webster and Thomas Goode overseers of the poor as aforesaid by virtue of an order of the County Court of the aforesaid County of Amelia bearing date February Court 1834 have put placed and bound, and by these presents do put place and bind George (a free boy of colour) of the age of eight years (in December 1834) to be an apprentice with him the said John F. Bass and as an apprentice with him the said John F. Bass to dwell from the date of these presents until the said George shall come to the age of twenty one years according to the act of the general assembly in that case made and provided, by and during all which time and term the said George shall the said John F. Bass his master well and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said George shall be put unto by his said master according to the power wit and ability of him the said George, and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave himself towards his said master and honestly and orderly towards the rest of the family of the said John F. Bass, And the said John F. Bass for his part for himself his heirs executors and administrators doth hereby promise and covenant to and with the said overseers of the poor and every of them, their and every of their executors and administrators and their and every of their successors for the time being and to and with the said George that he the said John F. Bass shall the said George in the craft, mystery and occupation of a carpenter which he the said John F. Bass now useth, after the best manner that he can or may teach, instruct, and inform or cause to be instructed, taught and informed as much as thereto belongeth or in any wise appertaineth, And that the said John F. Bass shall also find and allow unto the said apprentice
