This deed made the 5th day of July 1866 between John OBealy one of the overseers of the poor of Warren County of the one part and Milton T Fristoe of said county of the other part: Whereas the county court of Warren County at its June term of 1866 ordered that one of the overseers of the poor of said county do bind out Mary Ellen Barber a freed girl as an apprentice to the said Milton T. Fristoe to learn the business of a house servant, the said Mary Ellen Barber being six years old 1st November 1865 orphan of Agnes Barber decd, formerly a slave of Ms. Barber- until she shall attain the age of eighteen years - it appearing to the court that the said girl is likely to become chargeable to the county, and also ordered that for the services of the said apprentice for the last year the said Milton T. Fristoe shall pay her the sum of thirty five dollars when she shall arrive at the age of eighteen years. Now this deed witnessith that in obedience to the said order of court the said John O Bealy one of the overseers of the poor of said county doth hereby bind out the said Mary Ellen Barber a freed girl aged six years on 1st day of November 1865. to the said Milton T. Fristoe as an apprentice to learn the business of a house servant and to serve the said Milton T. Fristoe as an apprentice until she attains to the age of eighteen e, and in all lawful things to serve and obey the said Milton T. Fristoe during her said apprenticeship And the said Milton T. Fristoe on his part covenants that in consideration that the said Mary Ellen Barber shall well and truly and faithfully
