This Indenture made this twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight between James Holmes and Willis Bradshaw overseers of the poor of the lower district, in the county of Southampton of the one part, and Wm. H. Summerell of said county of the other part, witnesseth, that the said James Holmes and Willis Bradshaw overseers of the poor as aforesaid, by virtue of an order of the court of the aforesaid county, bearing date the nineteenth day of July in the year 1847 have put, placed, and bound, and by these presents do put, place, and bind William Henry Chappell infant son of Mary Chappell free negro of the age of eight years and four months, to be an apprentice with him the said Wm. H. Summerell, and as an apprentice with him the said We. H. Summerell to dwell from the date of these presents, until the said Wm. Henry Chappell shall come to the age of twenty one years according to the act of the General Assembly in that case made and provided.
