This indenture made this 28th day of October in the year 1856 between A. K. Stephenson an overseer of the poor of the county of Southampton of the one part and William R. Parker of the said county of the other.  Witnesses the said Stephenson overseer of the poor as aforesaid by virtue of an order of the county court of Southampton bearing date the October term 1856 has put, placed, and bound, and by these presents do put, place and bind, Jim a free negro boy and son of Rebecca Love aged eleven years (11) to be an apprentice with him the said William R Parker and as an apprentice with him the said William R Parker to dwell from the date of these presents until the said Jim shall come to the age of twenty one years, according to the act of the general assembly in that case made and provided, By and during all which time and term the said Jim shall the said Wm R Parker his master, will and faithfully serve in all such lawful business as the said Jim shall be put into by his said master according to the power, wit and ability of him the said Jim and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave himself towards his said master and also in an orderly manner towards the rest of his master's family and the said William R Parker for himself his administrators &c &c does hereby promise and covenant with the said overseer of the poor and his successors in office and to and with the said Jim that he the said Wm B Parker shall the said Jim in the craft, mystery and occupation of husbandry after the best manner that he can or may teach instruct and inform, or cause to be taught, instructed or informed as much as thereunto belongs or in any wise appertains, and the said William R Parker shall also allow unto and find for the said apprentice sufficient meat, drink, apparel, washing, lodging, and all other things needful or meet for an apprentice during the term aforesaid, and the said William R Parker does further
