Know all men by these presents that I do hereby acknowledge myself to be held and firmly bound unto Abner K Stephenson an overseer of the poor for Southampton county and his successors in office in the just and full sum of one hundred and eighty dollars for the payment whereof will and truly to be made. I bind myself and heirs as witness my hand and seal this 25th day of October in the year 1856. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas by an order of the county court of Southampton at the October term 1856 Jim a free Negro boy aged eleven years was directed to be bound as an apprentice to Wm R Parker he paying to Rebecca Love the mother of the said Jim the sum of eighteen dollars per annum except the last year which was to be paid to the said apprentice Jim himself. Now therefore if the said Wm R Parker shall pay to the said Rebecca Love the sum of eighteen dollars a year during the continuance of the said apprenticeship.
