This indenture made the 20th day of Septr in the year 1866 between George W Spivey Overseer of the Poor of the County of Southampton of the One part and J L Bailey of the said county farmer, of the other part - Witnesseth: That the said Geo. W Spivey O.P [Overseers of the Poor], as aforesaid acting with the allowance and approbation of the County Court of So'ampton [Southampton] County and in pursuance of an order of the said Court to the effect made and entered at its July term 1866 have put and bound, and do by these presents put and bind George Bailey colored a boy of the said county and being of the age of eleven years to be apprenticed to the said J L Bailey to learn the business of farming and with him to dwell and remain and serve until he, the said George shall attain his full age 21 years, during all which time he the said George, his master faithfully shall serve and obey, his secrets keep and his lawfull commands willingly do and perform, and shall not absent himself from the service of his said master day or night without his leave but shall in all things as a faithful apprentice behave himself towards his master and all his family during said term.
