doth hereby covenant, promise and agree with the said overseer his successors in office, that he the said J L Bailey, his said apprentice in the art of farming, which he now useth shall and will teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed in the best manner that he can, and shall and will provide and allow unto the said apprentice during all the said term competent and sufficient meat[,] drink, washing, lodging, apparel and all other things ne[c]ssary for the apprentice. And that the said J L Bailey doth covenant and agree with the said ovrser [overseer] by virtue of an order of the County Court to pay to the said George Bailey at the expiration of his apprenticeship the sum of One hundred dollars[.] In witness whereof the said Geo W Spivey O.P. and the said J L Bailey have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals this 20th Sept 1866[.] Geo W Spivey O.
