This Indenture made the second day of March in the year 1867, between [blank] one of the Overseers of the Poor of Southampton County of the one part, and Sally Barrett of the said County of the second part, Witnesseth: that the said Overseer of the Poor acting with the allowance and approbation of the County Court of the said county, and in pursuance of an order to that effect, made and entered at the February term thereof AD 1867, has put and bound, and does, by these presents, put and bind the following free children of color, to wit Henry Barrett, aged twelve years, Isham Barrett aged ten years, and Fanny Barrett aged seven years (who were former slaves of the said Sally Barrett and who are likely to become chargeable to the said county) to be apprentices of and to the said Sally Barrett, to learn the art, trade and business, each of them, of a farmer, and with her, the said Sally Barrett, to dwell, remain and serve until they, the said Henry and Isham shall attain their full age of twenty one years, and she, the said Fanny shall attain her full age of eighteen years. During all which time they their said Mistress shall faithfully serve and obey, her secrets to keep and her lawful commands willing do and perform, and shall not absent themselves from the service of their said Mistress, neither day nor night, without her leave, but shall in all things behave and demean themselves as faithful apprentices towards their said Mistress and all her family during their respective terms.
