This Indenture MADE the 8th day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty four BETWEEN Joseph & Jmaes P. RGentlemen, Overseers of the Poor of the County of Frederick & Corpo. of Winchester of the one part, and William Greer of the said County of the other part, WITNESSETH, that the said Overseers, in consequence of the authority in them vested by law, have put, placed and bound, and by these presents do put place and bind William a free black boy unto the said William Greer with him to dwell and serve after the manner of an Apprentice, until he shall arrive at and attain the full age of twenty one years, (he the said William being five years old, the 25th day of December next) during all which time the said Apprentice his said master well and faithfully shall serve, his secrets keep, and his lawful commands at all times readily obey; hurt to his said master he shall not do nor willingly suffer the same to be done by others; but henceforth shall notify him thereof. The goods of his said master he shall not waste or embezzle, nor them lend without orders from his said master From the service of his said master he shall not at any time depart or absent himself without his permission, and in all and every thing and things he shall truly, honestly and faithfully demean himself towards his said master as a good and faithful Apprentice ought to do. IN CONSIDERATION WHEREOF the said William Greer on his part and behalf doth hereby covenant, promise and agree, to and with the said Overseers and their successors, that he will constantly find and provide for the said Apprentice good wholesome diet, cloathing, and cleanly washing and lodging, suitable to his degree during the whole term of servitude, and that he will teach, or cause the said Apprentice to be taught the business of a Farmer within the said term, and at the expiration thereof pay and allow him the sum of twelve dollars for his freedom dues. IN WITNESS whereof the parties aforesaid have to these presents interchangeably set their hands and affixed their seals, the day and year first above written. Riley Gentlemen, Overseers of the Poor of the County of Frederick of the one part, and Sarah Bowers of the said County of the other part, WITNESSETH, that the said Overseers, in consequence of the authority in them vested by law, have put, placed and bound, and by these presents do put place and bind William Butler a molato boy unto the said Sarah Bowers with her to dwell and serve after the manner of an Apprentice, until he shall arrive at and attain the full age of fifteen years, (he the said William being ten years old, the 15th day of March last past) during all which time the said Apprentice his said mistress well and faithfully shall serve, her secrets keep, and her lawful commands at all times readily obey; hurt to his said mistress he shall not do nor willingly suffer the same to be done by others; but henceforth shall notify her thereof.
