This indenture made the 1st day of February 1839 between Joseph Long & J S Danner overseers of the poor of Frederick County and State of Virginia of the one part and Jos Lanick of the same place of the other part Witnesseth that the said overseers of the poor by virtue of the authority vested in them as such have put placed and bound Adison (a boy of Colour) three years the 14th day of February (son of Henrietta Richardson a free woman of Colour) an apprentice to the said Jos Larrick and as an apprentice to continue and dwell with him until he shall arrive at the age of Twenty one years according to the act of the General Assembly made and provided in that case during all which term the said Adison shall the said Jos Lanick well and faithfully serve in all such lawfull business as he may be put to according to his power wit and ability and shall honestly, orderly and obediently behave himself towards his said master as also towards his whole family during the term aforesaid and the said Jos Lanick his heirs Executors and administrators do hereby covenant and promise to and with the said overseers of the poor and their successors that they will teach or caused to be taught unto the said apprentice the art of Farming and find and allow unto the said apprentice during the term aforesaid sufficient meat drink washing lodging and apparel and all other things needfull and meet for said apprentice and at the expiration of his term give him Twelve dollars with such apparel as apprentices are entitled to.  in witness whereof the parties have hereunto set their hands and seals this the day and year above written  Joseph Long {Seal}  Jacob S Danner {Seal}
