This Indenture, made the 13 day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty between Roj Russell one of the overseers of the Poor of Frederick County, of the one part, and Elijah Hodgson of the same County, of the other part: Winesseth, That the said Overseer, in consequence of the powers in him vested, and pursuant to an order of the Court of the County aforesaid, dated February Fourth 1860, hath put, placed and bound, and by these presents doth put, place and bind Luncinda Bell unto the said Elijah Hodgson with him to dwell, and serve after the manner of an apprentice, until she shall arrive at and attain the full age of eighteen years, (the said Lucinda Bell a free girl of color being four years old the first day of March 1860) during all which time the time the said apprentice the said [illegible] well and faithfully shall serve, his secrets keep, and his lawful commands at all times readily obey; hurt to the said master shall not do, nor willingly suffer the same to be done by others, but henceforth shall notify him thereof; the goods of the said master she shall not waste or embezzle, nor lend them without orders from the said master; from the service of the said her master she shall not at any time depart or absent herself without his permission, and in all and every thing and things she shall truly, honestly and faithfully demean herself towards the said master. In consideration whereof, The said Elijah Hodgson on his part and behalf, do it hereby covenant, promise and agree, to and with the said overseer and his successors, that he will constantly find and provide for said apprentice good wholesome diet, clothing and cleanly washing and lodgin, suitable to her degree, during the whole term of servitude, and that and at the and the [illegible] with a good substantial freedom [illegible] pay her the sum of twenty dollars and for the payment afth said twenty dollar [illegible] L.J.
