November 30, 1940 Underway at 0600 Nov. 30 for Honolulu, Oahu, T.H. Took 8 hrs. to get out of Puget Sound. Dec. 1, 1940. 2nd Day out. Pretty heavy ground swell. Standing engine - room watches. Arrived in Honolulu at 1000, Dec. 8 1940. It sure is hot. Changed uniform to shorts. Glad we are here as engine room was too hot. December 27, 1940. Underway for Hilo Hawaii. Carrying soldiers and civilian passengers. Just staying two days. Expect to be in Honolulu by Sunday night. Went sight seeing up the volcanoes near Hilo. Swell time. January 11, 1941. Underway for Lahaina, Maui to test DeGaussey anti mine gear. Had a fire in No 1 Fireroom. Lost a man over the side. Katz. Signal striker.
