Dear Mrs. Mumford, - Yours of the 13 received, and in reply will say that I am today writing to some of our influential men among the constituents of the "unfavorable ones" -asking that they take the matter up, and bring all the pressure to [illegible][ on them they possibly can.

 A few personal letters from home would doubtless have a very salutary effect.
 You may rest assure that I shall do all I can to assist you in securing the passage of the bill.  If at anytime I can be of further assistance please command me.
