Know all Men by these Presents, That we Nathaniel S Wayland[,] John P Ayler and Daniel S Crigler are held and firmly bound unto the COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA, in the just and full sum of five hundred dollars; to which payment well and truly to be made to the Commonwealth, We bind ourselves our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with Our seals and dated this first day of August 1859, and in the 84th year of the Commonwealth. THE CONDITION OF THE ABOVE OBLIGATION IS SUCH - That whereas Thadeus a free man of colour late the property of Isham Tatum Sr Dec'd and emancipated by his last will and testament, has been permitted to enslave himself upon his own petition by an order of the Circuit Court of Madison County of this date pursuant to the act of assembly of the 16th day of February 1856 in such cases made and provided Now if the said Thadeus shall not become chargeable to any. County or Corporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia then the above obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
