This Indenture witnesseth, that in obedience to an order of the Hustings Court of the Town of Petersburg bearing date January one thousand eight hundred and six, we the undersigned Guardians of the poor of the said Town, do put and bind Billey Coleman a free Negro boy son of Temple Coleman, apprentice to Joseph Dilworth of the Town aforesaid, and after the manner of an apprentice to serve him from the day of the date hereof until the 12th day of August one thousand eight hundred and sixteen or until he arrives to the age of twenty one years, during all which time he the said apprentice his said Master shall faithfully serve, his secrets keep, his lawful commands every where gladly obey, he shall do no harm or damage to his said master nor see it to be done by others, without giving notice thereof to his said Master, he shall not waste nor lend his masters goods, he shall not absent himself day or night from his said Master service without his leave, not haunt ale houses, taverns or play houses, but in all things behave himself as a faithfull apprentice aught to do during said term.
