Your very welcome letter was received several days ago, & would have been answered sooner, but there was no need of haste, & I have been so busy on the farm & with other matters.
Everyone is away at S S, except Minnie & that means a state of quietness here that is sometimes appreciated by me: but as a rule I rather enjoy the chatter & play that goo on around me even when I am writing or reading, if I can only suppress the questions. Our little girl Mary Mason, nearly five is a veritable chatterbox, & a great seeker after knowledge, & an admonition "dont talk to me now" is in one ear & out of the other.
While she is not attending the school here, of course, yet she is to be Queen of the May tomorrow at the closing exercises of the primary department. She could not be more interested if she was to be queen of England. One practice she did not deem sufficient, & yesterday when her mother was taking her after dinner nap & I was at work at my desk, I heard in the parlor a mouth harp going & something that sounded much like
