FORM A6-9-26-17-5000 RAILWAY LIGHT POWER CHARLOTTESVILLE & ALBEMARLE RAILWAY COMPANY F. C. TODD, PRESIDENT W. R. MORTON, SEC'Y & TREAS.
JOHN L. LIVERS, VICE PRES. & GEN. MGR.
Charlottesville, Va., February 25,1916 Mrs. B. B. Munford, 503 E. Grace St., Richmond, Va. Dear Mrs. Munford: - Enclosed please find an article written by Mr. Weaver which he thought you would enjoy having.
I wish to advise that Judge Dabney did not go to Washington today as he expected to do, so nothing has been done in reference to Senator Martin or Congressman Flood.
I have had a talk with Dr. J. H. Dillard, with whom you are no doubt acquainted, who now handles the Jeanes and Slater fund, and I believe was formerly President of Tulane University. In fact, I believe his name is in "Who's Who", and he advised me that he is in favor of co-education for the University and he is very much disgusted with the talk of the traditions of same, and what they want is some business organization and the realization that it is a university for the people. He advised me that he is a close friend of Davis Reed, having come from New Orleans to Portsmouth to speak for him when he was Mayor of Portsmouth, and he has just gotten a letter from Davis Reed asking his views on the co-ordinate college. He is also related to H. D. Dillard from Franklin County, and I have requested him to write a letter to each of them on behalf of the college. Further still, he has never met Governor Davis, and I have asked that he go to Richmond as my guest with me the first of next week and have a talk with Governor Davis in reference to the University, its traditions, etc., also Board of Visitors, which he has agreed to do, and in the meantime, I have asked him not to write the letters and we will see Mr. Dillard and Davis Reed in person and I am sure he can influence them to support our measure. I hope you enjoyed the article of J. Edwin Wood's in yesterday's "Times-Dispatch." Very truly yours, John L. Livers, JLL-McL
