Among the subjects this Conference will consider are: Steps in Governmental Efficiency, Accomplishments of City Manager Government in Virginia, Methods of Introducing Civil Services into State Government, The Teaching of Government, Efficient County Government, Improved Primary Laws, etc. Among the speakers will be: Governor Davis, Col. LeRoy Hodges, Dr. J.A.C. Chandler, Dr. W. Jett Lauck, Hon. Charles E. Ashburner, Mrs. Helen H. Gardener, Hon. Louis Brownlow. Col. Hodges' address on the morning of November 22 will inform us of the work of the State Commission on Efficiency and Economy appointed in 1917. Its recommendations and accomplishments should form a basis upon which to build for the future of Virginia. The Executive Committee which is arranging for the Conference is composed of Miss M. E. The Boars, at its Lynchburg meeting, as you will remember, endorsed the holding of the Conference now being arranged. The definite idea of this State Commission as an objective of the Conference, however, arose since the Board met. We were therefore, unwilling to take final action upon so important a matter without consulting the Board. Will you not let us know at once whether you sanction work for such a Committee?
