(2) assigned him therefore and process Issue against the said Peter Corbell in order that he may obtain the same.  From the above statement I am induced to believe that the above named Isaac is entitled to his freedom  John Dabney  And at a Rule day heretofore held in the Clerks Office of the County aforesaid the  day of March 1798. came the pauper aforesaid by his attorney. and filed his declaration in these words and figures to wit "Campbell County to wit  " Isaac who sues informa pauperis complains  " of Peter Corbell in custody & of a plea of Trespass  " assault & Battery and false Imprisonment  " to wit that whereas the said Defendant on the  "  day of January 1795 at the parish of    " and County aforesaid with force and arms  " to wit with swords sticks clubs and switches  " on him the said Plaintiff an assault did " make and him the said Plaintiff did " then and there beset wound and evil Treat " and him the said Plaintiff there in prison " without any reasonable cause and contrary " to the laws of This commonwealth a long " time to wit from the  day of January 1795 " until the 13 day of November 1797 and " other outrages then and there committed " against the peace and dignity of The Commonwealth and to the Injury of the Plaintiff " One Thousand pounds and therefore he sues J Dabney P.Q. and the Defendant being arrested and not appearing it is ordered that Judgment be entered in favour of said Pauper agt.the Defendant as Complained in (3) the declaration mentioned and costs and the same be enquired of by a Jury to be empanneled at the next Quarterly term to be holden for this County unless the Defendant shall appear at the next Rule Day to be holden in the Clerks Office of this county and Answer the Plaintiffs action at which day towit at a Rule day held in the Clerks Office of the County aforesaid the  day of April following came the Plaintiff aforesaid by his attorney and the Defendant still failing to appear and answer the Plaintiffs action it is ordered that the order and Rule made at the last rules against the Defendant be confirmed and that his damages be assessed and enquired unto by a Jury at the next Quarterly term to be holden for this county, at which day to wit at a Court of Quarterly Session Continued and holden for the County aforesaid at the Court house thereof the 16th day of May following Came the Plaintiff aforesaid by his attorney and the Defendant still failing to appear and answer the Plaintiffs action and for reasons appearing to the Court the trial of this cause is deferred untill the next Court of Quarterly Session to be holden for this County and at a Court held for said County the 9th day of July following came the Plaintiff aforesaid by his attorney and leave is granted him to take the Depositions of Alexander Degraffenread and Cleris Copher Degraffenread and George Ray living in the County of Chester and State of South Carolina and it is further
