JOHN S MUNCE,, AUDITOR OF RICHMOND, VA STATE HEADQUARTERS, RICHMOND, VA COMMERCIAL BUILDING, SECOND STREET BETWEEN BROAD AND GRACE July 27th - 1914 Dear President: The National American Woman Suffrage Association has issued a call making August Fifteenth self-sacrifice day for the raising of money for the CAMPAIGN STATES.
There are now SEVEN of these States - Nevada, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota, Nebraska, Missouri and Ohio, in all of which the popular vote on equal suffrage will be taken in November. To add those States to the suffrage territory is of supreme importance, and money is urgently needed for the work in all of them.
Miss Alice Stone Blackwell, in the Woman's Journal of July 25th, says: "The biggest thing in the suffrage movement is and always has been, SACRIFICE The climax in steadily approaching. The hour has almost come. Never before has there been such need of sacrifice as now: a few months, a year perhaps, and never afterward will there be such need of sacrifice again. August Fifteenth has been set apart as the crowning Day of Self Denial for this year. Less than three months later, seven States will vote on the question of whether or not they will enfranchise their women. If these Seven States are won, the suffrage question will have been practically settled in the United States. August Fifteenth is a challenge. Suffragists are already meeting it. It will be a day that will write itself large. You will be watching the bulletin boards the first week in November. DO YOUR PART NOW, lest defeat come and it be yours, lest victory come and you cannot share it."
There are fifty branch leagues for equal suffrage in Virginia. We trust that all of them will observe August Fifteenth, Self-Sacrifice Day, by raising a fund, either large or small, to be donated to the war chest of the Seven Campaign States. Please send the results of your efforts to Mrs. S G Kidd, Treasurer of the Equal Suffrage League of Virginia. the Shenandoah, Richmond, Virginia, and she willforward same on to Miss Jane Addams, who will have charge of the disbursements.
Cordially yours, Alice O Taylor Secretary
