Complimentary Dinner Given Miss Risteau First Woman Member of Legislature is Pledged Support Of Own Sex. [From The Sun Bureau.] Annpolis, Md., Jan. 3.-Assurances of the wholehearted support of her own sex, and the good wishes of her male colleagues in the Legislature greeted Miss Mary E. W. Risteau, of Harford county, this evening on the eve of taking her seat as the first woman member of the House of Delegates. Members of the Maryland League of Women Voters and the League of Women Voters of Anne Arundel county gave a dinner in honor of Miss Risteau at Carvel Hall. Miss Risteau was showered with congratulations and good wishes, and there was some discussion of proposed legislation in which women of the State are interested. John J. (Sonny) Mahon was introduced to Miss Risteau at Carvel Hall, and she also met many members of the Senate and House of Delegates, who promised her every consideration in her new duties Some of them were at great pains to explain the "why" of their having been opposed at one time to suffrage, but now heartily for it. After the dinner Miss Risteau went to the State House, where she was inducted into active legislative politics as a member of the Democratic caucus.
