Augusta Landis Furman, 98, a retired administrative assistant with the Veterans Administration, died of respiratory failure Nov. 8 at Suburban Hospital. She lived in Bethesda.

Mrs. Furman was born in Oxford, N.C., and graduated from the Women's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  She moved to the Washington area in 1918 and worked for the old War Industries Board.

In 1919 she joined the old Bureau of War Risk Insurance, a precursor of the Veterans Administration.
