EIGHTY-THIRD INFANTRY DIVISION OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL The United States of America Citation AWARD OF BRONZE STAR MEDAL Technical Sergeant Brown Jones, 33215533 Infantry, 331st Infantry, United States Army For distinguishing himself by heroic achievement in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States on 11 August 1944, In France. Sergeant Jones was given the mission of blasting a path through German defenses consisting of mine fields, barbed wire entanglements and steel beamed roadblocks, effectively covered by machine guns in concrete pillboxes. Sergeant Jones, completely unmindful of personal danger, blasted a path through the mine fields and road blocks under heavy enemy machine gun fire. He crawled forward and placed a bangalore torpedo under the obstacles, thus clearing a path for the assault company to pass through. His devotion to duty and courage under fire, merit the highest praise and uphold the finest traditions of the military service. Entered military service from Virginia.
