This Indenture made the 21st day of Septr in the year 1830 between Joel L Walton and Stephen Farrar overseers of the poor of the second Hundred of of Louisa County of the one part, and Josephus Fox of the said county of the other part witnesseth that the said Joel L Walton and Stephen Farrar overseers of the poor as afforesaid by virtue of an order of the court of the afforesaid county bearing date 13th day of September in the year 1830 have put placed and bound and by these presents do put place and bind Harriett Scott daughter of Nancy Scott a free woman of colour of the age of about 12 years to be an apprentice to him the said Josephus Fox and as an apprentice to him the said Josephus Fox to dwell from the date of these presents untill the said Harriet Scott Shall come to the age of Eighteen years according to the act of the General assembly of Virginia in that case made and provide By and during all which time and time the said Harriet Scott Shall the said Josephus Fox her said Master well and faithfully Serve in all Lawful business as the said Harriett Scott shall be put unto by her said master according to the power wit and ability of her the said Harriett Scott, and honestly and obediently in all things shall behave her self towards her said Master [blank] and honestly and orderly towards the rest of the family of the said Josephus Fox, and the said Josephus Fox for his part for himself his executors and administrators doth hereby promise and covenant with the said overseers of the poor and every of them, their and every of their Executors and administrators and their and every of their successors for the time being and to and with the said Harriett Scott that the the said Josephus Fox Shall Teach the said Harriett Scott in the mystery and occupation of a house servant Which he the said Josephus Fox now useth, after the best manner that he can or may teach instruct and inform or cause to be taught instructed and informed
