William A Foote v Lucinda Scott In Chry Henry [illegible] being first duly sworn says, but he is one of the police constables of [illegible], & as an officer became well acquainted with the character & conduct of a negro girl named Betsy who belonged to the Estate of the late Richard M Scott that she was one of the most & abandoned girls in the home, that her conduct became frequently the subject of complaint, & the police constables lodged complaints against her with [illegible] Scott, who finally directed her arrest, & that she would be carried to their cornfields. This deponent arrested her, & when urged to go home & behave better, said girl declined repeatedly but she would not go home, & said if carried there she would not stay & that the devil himself would not keep her & used a great many other similar
